Bayview Dental’s David Schneider Proud Of Contributions To Washington’s Volunteer Sector
While volunteers are sometimes in short supply, even organizations
in need may have guidelines on who can lend a hand. This isn’t always the case
however, but it’s best to know what prerequisites there are – if any – before
raising your hand to help. This simple fact is what has spurred David Schneider of Bayview Dental to offer
some insight on the topic. Mr. Schneider, who operates a dental practice in
Washington state, found his calling with a local church’s food bank and farming
efforts. There weren’t any restrictive requirements placed on volunteers with
this effort, so Mr. Schneider has found satisfying work there. However, other
organizations do have guidelines and suggestions so we’re here to shed some
light on this topic.
According to the Red Cross’ website, “volunteers carry out over 90
percent of the humanitarian work” that the organization does. The first steps
toward working with this group that responds to tens of thousands of
emergencies annually is by submitting an application and passing a background
check. A recruiter will then contact applicants who are being considered to
further discuss time commitments, volunteer opportunities and places where they
can be of assistance. At the American Veterinary Medical Association, members
of the organization can fill leadership roles. By belonging to the AVMA, you
could help as a member of the board of directors, serve as an officer, work on
a council or join the veterinary specialties board. “You also have a chance to
give back to your profession and influence the key issues affecting veterinary
medicine today,” the group’s website state.
When Bayview Dental’s David Schneider found Christ the King
Community Church, he knew that this was the perfect volunteer opportunity for
him. That’s because Mr. Schneider works with members of the community on a
daily basis and knows that a great need exists. At Christ the King, anywhere
from 700 to 3,000 pounds of produce can be distributed by the farming effort.
This helps those facing food insecurity across Washington state and has real
and lasting impact. What’s more, the farms and greenhouses that the church’s
farming effort were donated so a circle of giving is completed. According to
2015 figures from the Corporation for National and Community Service, 1.6
million volunteers in Washington state contributed 198 million hours of
service that carried a price tag of $5 billion. Bayview Dental’s David
Schneider is proud to have lent his time and services to both the food
distribution program and Washington’s volunteer sector overall.
